A 100 Year Update

This quintessential representation of a mid-century modern home was built in 1961. It’s not often that we see these homes, and the idea with this project was to stay true to the heritage of mid-century modern with nods to the past, while adapting the space to today’s contemporary lifestyles. Instead of making this kitchen something it wasn’t, we celebrated the style of the architecture, which also flows into the dining room and looks over toward the classic sunken living room. A previous renovation had been done sometime in the early 1980s, replacing the original kitchen with a typical colonial kitchen of that era. Our goal was to bring it back to its hey-day. Staying within the existing footprint, we took all of the spaces that made up the kitchen area and enlarged them, leveraging every nook and cranny, including a dedicated coffee service area. This improved design provides good circulation, and the finished space embodies the mid-century modern tradition down to every last detail.
